Prom!

A couple days ago, someone from my physics class asked me to prom. I was inside my teacher's classroom working on some assignments when my teacher asked me to step out of the room. I didn't know what was happening until I saw Bob (not his real name) with a cheesecake and a rose in hand. He said in a really quiet voice, "Jocelyn, will you go to prom with me?" At first I couldn't hear him, because he was so nervous, but then I said yes. Later on that day, I found out that he made the cheesecake himself (from scratch) and handpicked the rose from his house. I also found out that he and his other friend brainstormed a couple ideas. The first one was getting 5 birdies (since I play badminton) and each one spells "PROM?" According to his friend, Bob didn't want to do it, because it was lame and cheap (even if it costs $2, it's still cute in my POV). The second one was him giving four of my friends white roses, which of course spells out "PROM." The last rose, the question mark, would be red and Bob would give it to me during badminton practice. The last idea would be him making a remote controlled helicopter fly towards me and underneath, with the note hanging, would ask me if I would like to go to prom. All the ideas were so adorable and yet he didn't do it! Nonetheless, the cheesecake was surprisingly delicious and the rose is in the process of being pressed. On the bright side, I would be going to prom with the exception of being the 10th wheel.

Poem Just For the Heck of It

So, a couple days ago, my friend and I were lamenting over the loss of "the loves of our lives." They aren't really the love of our lives, because we only met them in a couple days or, worse, 20 seconds. We then decided to write a poem expressing our heartbroken selves. She wrote about some guy in Hometown Buffet and I wrote about a guy I met in badminton games. My friends and I were laughing over the poems, because they seemed so silly. So here it is! By the way, the person's name in my poem is Wilter.

My Loss

Your hair, your eyes, your nails
It is all my loss.
When I saw you, my arms grew tails.
When I talked to you, I felt like I needed to floss.
I met you last year in a badminton game
And it was like love at first sight.
I won't see you again, and it won't be the same.
So, like a stalker, I'll find you with all my might.
But I can't do that,
Because there is too many people to count.
Instead, I'll have a cat,
Which is depressing and dount.
No, that isn't a word.
That tells you how sad I am.
So sad I could buy a Ford,
So sad I could call myself Pam.
I'll never see you again, Wilter
And as I write this poem, my roses will wilter.

Change

The definition of change is to transform or to take another appearance. To some people, change would do good in society, and for others, it'll only wreak havoc. There are people who are prepared for this "change" and there are others who aren't. I am one of those people who aren't. As a senior in high school, I have to physically, financially, and mentally prepare myself for college. I already plan to go to CalPoly Pomona and my financial and transportation issues are planned out. However, as prepared as I may seem to be, I am not ready for this "change" in my life. Going for simple high school to sophisticated college would be a dramatic change for young adults like me. I thought about this today as I was helping my dad sort his bills, and out of no where, I felt tears running down my face. At first, I didn't know what was happening, but then I realized that I was scared. Scared of change. A couple minutes later when the thought was just disappearing from my mind, my mom asked me which college I wanted to go to. Perfect timing, Mom, I thought. I quickly replied, trying to hold back my tears to keep my mom from worrying. Right after she left, I had an emotional breakdown in my grandma's room.
Like my tennis coach told me, "You have to defeat challenges, whether it's on the tennis court or in life." Change is a challenge that I have to defeat. I know one day I will get used to college life, but now since I'm not in college yet, I have to (HAVE TO) accept the fact that I will go to college in September and I have to mentally prepare myself for the big change in my life.
